SpineMED® Launches New Web-based Practitioner Support Resource
New Website Offers Improved Support for SpineMED® Practitioners
SpineMED® is pleased to announce the launching of a new website. The new site features a Practitioner Support Section, where SpineMED® doctors can Log-In to access helpful resources.
Behind the Log-In, doctors will find new marketing materials and campaign information available for viewing and downloading. In addition, the section also houses clinical and training scripts and guides.
“The practitioner support section of the website has made it more convenient for doctors to access the marketing materials and additional resources available to them, easing the implementation of SpineMED® and creating a solid foundation from which a successful SpineMED® practice is created and built upon”, says Bernadette Colvin, Marketing Coordinator. “Furthermore, by transitioning these support materials to an electronic format, we are able to instantaneously share updated and brand new resources that become available. The Marketing Team is dedicated to continuing to expand and improve our business support programs.”

First Ever Cervical Non-surgical Decompression Study presented at NASS
Dr. Richard Bernstein, D.O., Physiatrist, recently presented the results of the first ever cervical non-surgical decompression study at the 2008 North American Spine Society’s Annual Meeting. The “Non-Surgical Intervertebral Disc Decompression for the Treatment of Lumbar and Cervical Disc Pathology” presentation focused on the clinical application of non-surgical Disc Decompression utilizing SpineMED® for patients with both lumbar and cervical disc pathology including: indications, goals of treatment, protocols and clinical outcomes.
The sample was composed of 156 lumbar patients and 37 cervical patients. Each participant received 20-25 sessions for herniated or degenerated discs. Of the lumbar patients, 56 out of 156 have had some history of cervical surgical intervention before becoming involoved with the SpineMED® study. The gender ratio for lumbar patients was 50/50, with a mean age of 54 years. The cervical patients were 60% female, with a mean age of 50 years, and 40% male, with a mean age of 46 years, with three previous surgery patients.
The results displayed a dramatic increase in perceived ratings, positive changes in abl scores, a five-point mean decrease in vas scores (from 5.8-0.8), and an overall increase in patients functionality. Oswestry scores also decreased from 33 to 13, regardless of the patient’s surgical history. “What we see here with these results is pretty significant, and is very consistent wth what I’ve seen as well”, concluded Dr. Bernstein. Overall, the study presented favorable results and reflected what SpineMED® physicians and patients witness daily.
SpineMED® Awarded Patent For Pelvic Restraint System
SpineMED® received Patent # 7201729 for the pelvic restraint system, a key component of their flagship product, SpineMED® Decompression. The gel padded pelvic horns and pelvic tilt system combine to differentiate and improve upon second generation decompression tables.
The unique pelvic restraint horns are designed to provide a secure, comfortable and repeatable set up, eliminating variability, slippage and inconvenience. The gel padding disperses the force evenly around the pelvis and the restraints are tilted so that it requires very little tightening to get a secure capture.
SpineMED®’s pelvic tilt feature adjusts the patient’s pelvis positioning to accurately isolate and decompress specific spinal segments. It rotates the pelvis between 0-25 degrees during lumbar sessions.
“The traditional nylon harness restraint systems were one of the most obvious points of frustration with the older decompression tables. Not only was setting the patient up time and labor intensive, the harnesses also introduced variability, slippage and discomfort.” says Tim Emsky, Managing Director of SpineMED®. “The solution was to eliminate the old nylon harnesses and create a simple, yet amazingly effective restraint system.”
“Furthermore, the application of force is dramatically improved with SpineMED®’s pelvic restraint system”, says Richard Beaumont, Head Engineer of SpineMED® . “The direct capture we are able to achieve improves isolation of the spinal segments and allows instantaneous energy transfer. While with the older tower and harness design, energy is absorbed and lost in the elaborate strap, rope and pulley system.”
SpineMED® principal office is located in Western Canada in the heart of British Columbia. Every SpineMED® is built to UL, CSA and CE Certification Standards, and is sold to Hospitals and Physicians worldwide. The SpineMED® is approved by several country’s Department of Health, is Licensed by Health Canada and has two FDA clearances for sales in the United States.
SpineMED® Receives FDA Clearance For SpineMED® Lumbar Decompression
SpineMED®, the next generation of spinal decompression technology, has received FDA 510(k) clearance for Lumbar Decompression. The SpineMED® Decompression System is designed to isolate and heal damaged lumbar spinal discs offering long-term relief of lower back pain without the use of drugs or surgery.
“The SpineMED® System is designed to be the most effective and clinically efficient decompression system on the market”, says Tim Emsky, President of Universal Pain Technology Canada. “We made significant improvements to the restraint system, the ability to isolate specific spinal segments, and computerization, to create the most sophisticated decompression system available.”
Universal Pain Technology Canada is an ISO13485 and CE certified manufacturer of medical devices. Prior to the design and manufacturing of SpineMED®, Universal Pain Technology Canada owned outright or operated, through partnerships with existing medical practices, several decompression centers throughout North America.
SpineMED® Receives FDA Clearance For SpineMED® Cervical Decompression
Universal Pain Technology Canada announced that in addition to SpineMED® Lumbar Decompression, SpineMED® Cervical Decompression has received FDA 510 (k) clearance. The SpineMED® Cervical Unit is designed to comfortably secure the patient for distraction and accurately isolate cervical spinal segments for decompression.
“Disc degeneration and injury are not limited to the back.” says Mark Monaghan. “We wanted to provide our current and future customers with the ability to relieve those patients suffering with discogenic neck pathologies as well.”
SpineMED®’s Cervical Unit seamlessly integrates with the SpineMED® Decompression table and provides the same leading technology that is incorporated into the lumbar section.
